As of my arrival to the AMOA Vegas 2007 show, I was notified that Betson Enterprises now offers a “Conversion Kit” for all “In The Groove machines.” This upgrade retails for ~$4200.00 usd and converts all ITG cabinets into Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA.
BEWARE of these kits. Even after the death of the In The Groove series: the ITG spirit continues to live on through it’s established player communities all over the world. Betson/Konami will never change that!
(revised wording)
Wow thats terrible.
I see Pop It For Gold…What a great game 🙂
this is severely messed up =/
I can see why Konami sued…butthis is going too far…I need to make sure the nearest ITG2 cab doesnt get converted…otherwise i think i’ll die D:
Ugh. Countersue if you can – isn’t this exactly what they got ITG in legal trouble for in the first place, reverse-engineering proprietary hardware as “unfair competition”? Win the ITG distribution rights back. Legally block these kits. I know it’s not financially feasible, but it would be a huge victory for the entire community…it’s nice to dream, I guess. :/
Oh, and an annendum.
Make Pump Pro the best game it can possibly be. Do a ton of marketing, get word of mouth going. Make it attractive to have one, price-wise. Urge people to ask for it. If it works, get home versions going. Make this a huge franchise. If Pump gains popularity and DDR loses popularity to the point where it becomes unprofitable, we’ll have our revenge.
That’s awesome, I’d love to be able to play DDRSN on ITG pads, since I like ITG hardware better.
Konami, YOU’RE A TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO-GOOD, VERY BAD COMPANY!!! I’m deeply sorry to hear this unfortunate news.
IHYD.JJK, it’s called SIMFILES. Just play those on there. The thought of the DDR SuperNOVA arcade program infecting ITG2 Dedi-Cab hardware is something I can barely stomach!
Isn’t converting cabinets exactly the reason WHY Konami sued Roxor in the first place?
Hypocrites…
Konami apparently doesn’t see how ITG is better, even for business.
A [huge] part of me died when Roxor lost rights to ITG…
Konami needs to die… Pump Pro is exactly what we need.
I await the home version kyle!
it’s more likely that they’re talking about “upgraded” DDR cabinets, considering that’s what most ITG machines are. it’s probably just there because most arcade operators are stupid and don’t think about the fact that their ITG machines used to be DDR machines.
since the ITG2 dedicated cabinet hardware is not the same as that of a DDR machine, it would not be a simple plug-and-play operation and i find it unlikely that Betson would manufacture two different kinds of kits, especially considering the comparatively low number of dedicated cabinets and the even lower number of arcade managers who would even understand what the point was.
on a separate note, you guys are… huge fanboys who make the community look bad. you know that, right?
I urge everyone to relax. This notice was only meant to give news and awareness to the ITG community. Please do not resort to insults and hurtful comments.
Thank you to everyone for the words & concerns. Regardless of what game(s) you are playing now, I urge you to continue to do so with an open mind. Move on and enjoy.
Keep on gr00ve’n! 🙂
I think drano stole my name…that is all…
but its still kinda sad, because im worried about my local ITG2 Cab
Hahahahahahahahaha.
:awesome:
One of my malls, Fairview Mall, recently had an In the Groove 2 machine installed.
The mall is still under renovation.
I wonder if this means that the owners will convert it to a DDR Supernova….
Would be a terrible blow to me, since I’d have to go downtown to get to Funland Arcade for ITG2, unless all of Toronto’s converting…
I’ll blame our mayor David Miller for this.
I hope Konami didn’t take any part into the Betson Enterprises offerings.
RoXoR did it to Konami, now Konami is doing it back. Meh?
I love both of the games pretty equally (actually if somebody made me choose inbetween which one to play my brain would explode) so I don’t really mind too much. In The Groove dedicabs didn’t really make it to Australia much anyway.
Also -apparently- Konami wasn’t even involved in this convertion kit at all, so who knows what will happen. Maybe they will sue Betson Enterprises for it 😛 (knowning Konami, it wouldn’t suprize me at all :P)”
Oh well. On the ITG side of things I am really looking forward to PIU Pro. I’ve always disliked the normal PIU games because of their bad cabinets and songs.etc, but when saw this one and found out that most of Kyle’s songs are in it, I was straight interested. Who knows, I might be one of millions to fall into 5 panel dancing simulation games.
oh god first i lose the only itg2 machine in all of south jersey and now this???? this suxorz. i played DDRSN and itg is so much smoother
Kyle, with all due respect, why are you telling us to “beware” of these kits if you want us to play our preferred games with an open mind?
My original intention for this post was to give awareness about these kits. I’m not trying to influence what people play or what they enjoy playing. (sorry if the wording reflected this)
As long as people continue to have options with their gameplay, that’ll be fine in my book! 🙂
Thank goodness Powerplay has both an ITG2 Cabinet and A DDR Supernova.. I love our ITG2 Cabinet waay too much.
How much do Conversion kits to turn a machine into ITG2 cost these days? I assume they’re probably pretty rare, huh?
I’ll agree it’s pretty rare to find a conversion kit. It should be around the ~$3 000 – $4 000 USD mark (estimating, have no real idea).
Otherwise, the post says it will cost $4 200 U.S. for a conversion.
The only conversion which is needed for DDR machines in Toronto are 2 places, which have really old machines.
Hannah- Too bad they are selling BOTH Pump AND ITG soon.
Konami really has no right to steal the machines from Roxor, it might casue another lawsuit unless konami stole all the machines in the first place. maybe someone should create a reversal pack to combat this patch. like they have for modded PSPs if you brick them. One that will re reconvert the machine back to ITG. the next thing is what people can add to ITG machines makes them better. Such as custom themes (like the ITG3’s Groove 3.0 and ITG2 Eternal)
just curious, how exactly was itg2 eternal made, and how is it different from the regular itg2 theme?
Uh, what is this crap? I’m very sad. I’ve been playing DDR for over 7 years, but ITG is far better than DDR. Step artists for ITG know what’s fun.
Pretty much here’s how I see it.
ITG Step Artists – Frequent players of the game that constantly tweak and play their own files to see what’s fun and what’s not.
DDR Step Artists – Fat. Sit around. Tada.
This is gonna be fun. Arcades are really gonna regret buying these kits when they compare the profit of ITG2 with the profit of DDR SuperNOVA. The kits are going to slowly become unpopular, and along with that, DDR SuperNOVA will as well. Arcades are going to beg Konami to release In The Groove 3 to gain back the profit of ITG
So, just relax and watch the fun.
There are 4 machines in the Ottawa-Gatineau Area, and I heard one was being put to SuperNOVA, and I’m actually pretty exited to see what this looks like and try it out.
PS. Yes I’m a DDR fanboy, but Kyle Ward is my idol! I know weird combination but it’s true.
i agree with the prson that posted the 29th comment. i never even thought of that. that is probably going to happen, konami will release ITG3 eventually bcuz DDR sux.
Well sure they’ll release ITG3, but it will probably be the same thing as another DDR game. I mean, wouldn’t it only really be ITG3 if it was actually Kyle and them? Just cause Konami released a game with ITG3 slapped on the front of the cabinet, would that make it any good?
Konami obviously doenst care for the continuation of ITG. These kits are one example.
This is the gayest thing anyone could come up with!!!!!!!!!!!! I am an ITG player for 2 years now and I hate DDR, its nonsense to me I think Konami should give it up, and Just have Roxor start up ITG again, They have recently taken the closest arcade that had ITG, now we have nowhere to play ITG. Its ridiculous, Konami sued roxor only because they new it would be better than ITG, but ITG will live on FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t hate DDR, I liked some of the songs because they were good for freestyles. But Konami fails to acknowledge most of it’s players went to ITG because DDR lacked challenge (and good heavy songs like Pandemonium, Vertex, etc.) DDR has some of the worst songs I’d ever heard. ITG gave a lot of great artists some well deserved exposure.
tl;dr: Bring back ITG! ;_;
I’m sure arcades will see that the profits on the machine will go way down if they switch to lameNOVA. I would like to try one tho, it might be fun to play DDR on mats that acctually function correctly!
I was thinking, since the cabinets were produced by Andamiro, couldn’t AM sue Konami? I guess not because they dont acctually modify the cabinet in any way, just the hardware inside it. Could I get anyone elses opinions on this please? I thought it may work but now I doubt it since AM would have sued earlier if this was the case.
ITG will live on I’ll make sure to make my own damn cabinets if I can’t find any offical cab to buy.PIU will always be meh to me.DDR will always disapoint me.You think they would at least take some techniques from Roxor, like there Step editer witch I must say is 100000x better than DDR’s step editer will ever be, and in turn will make higher quality simfiles.
[…] Kyle Ward Save your local ITG Machines! Konami made an "upgrade" kit for any ITG cab to DDRSN. I’m assuming it could be for a dedi or a upgraded cabinet. Maybe try looking for one of these? […]
I don’t think the SN Kits for ITG Machines ever exist after all.
There is ones for ITG on DDR machines but not for ITG Machines, I never seen one or heard of a kit in sale.
Hey Guys –
It seems that Betson quickly pulled this kit after it was announced… I’m not sure why they did, but it seems you are correct that it was never released after the show.
At the time of this release/post, it was understood that it upgraded “All forms of the In The Groove Systems”
Luckily, it seems to have never found it’s way to the market place! 🙂
I really want to play ITG before none of it’s in existence.
Don’t worry, ITG Cabs will be around for awhile still.
The only thing that will kill ITG would be the death of the community, and even with some of the crap that happen, it’s still kicking so there is no worries. Plus there is IDance coming and that’s pretty close to ITG, hell it may be even better than ITG.
However I do admit however I am abit worried about the new DDR X game however due to it’s new PC based hardware, the “DDR on ITG Cab” scare can still be real, however there is no news on this yet so there is no need to panic. Plus I don’t think it can happen still.
If konami pretty much destroyed ITG aren’t they able to keep ITG alive and keep the same creators and take over the profit and ownership of the game since it’s one of the worlds most popular game. I have seen alot of comments from all different message boards about this whole disclosure of ITG and how everyone hates konami for it. but i think konami has a great oppertunity to keep itg alive and everyone wins and also redoctane will be able to put the dance pads back on the market. To me it seems like ddr is not the same as it used to be before ddr extreme i honestly think it has gone down hill i think supernova was just an attempt to win the over the crowd since ITG became successful and konami probably got jealous.
update. ITG is pretty much officially dead in Indiana. No where for me to play. The community, and my youth, all a faint memory. I feel fat and elderly **
